Pure Substance-



Homogeneous Mixture-


Heterogeneous Mixture-






a substance that cannot be decomposed into simpler substances by chemical or physical means. (ex. iron, aluminum, oxygen, & hydrogen)

a substance with constant composition that can me broken down into elements by chemical processes. (ex. water) 

- a compound always has the same composition or combonation of atoms





something that has variable composition. (ex. wood, wine, water pumped from deep in the earth) 


either an element or a compound; always has the same composition (ex. pure water H2O)


a mixture that is the same throughout (ex. salt stirred into water)


A mixture with different sections that have different properties (ex. sand and water)
